Pagan Eye: A Gift of a Rowan Cross

This gift of a rowan cross was given to me by a friend who recently visited the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic, in Cornwall. Apparently my friend asked a member of staff at the museum to recommend a present for me and this was what was suggested.

I was absolutely delighted with the gift - particularly because I had intended to make a rowan cross myself this year, but hadn't got around to it. Not that I had told my friend about that though - and the staff at the museum had no way of knowing at all, so I am very impressed with their witchy powers of prescience.

A rowan cross tied with red wool or thread is a traditional protective charm used in English folk magic. As it says on the packet: "Hung on a door or above a fireplace, the cross should ensure that no bad luck enters."

On each Pagan Eye post, I show a photo that I find interesting, with a few words about it - a seasonal image, a pagan site, an event, or just a pretty picture. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself and you must confirm that you are submitting it for A Bad Witch's Blog.
