Poppets & Dolls: Buy a Handmade Poppet, Save Goats

A friend of mine, Angela, is raising money to start a sanctuary for goats in Wales. Part of what she is doing to get funds is make and sell personalised poppets. I have a soft spot for goats, as well as magical dolls, so I'm sharing the details.

Angela said: "I have always had a love of dolls and it was with great delight that I discovered poppets as a way to use dolls in a practical way. I love making things and have done for years so putting the two together seemed a natural progression.

"I am in the process of starting a goat sanctuary in Wales and as I need to fundraise, not least for the legal fees to start, this seemed the prefect opportunity to create some lovely things that will be of use and help."

Each doll is made individually. Angela said: "I put together what 'feels right' and there is someone out there who wants that particular combination, that could be you. Nothing in life should be undertaken lightly and everything we do has an impact on the world and other people in it. You will have an intent for your doll. If it is a gift then it is a gift of love and that love will be there constantly for the person who is given that great gift. If it is for a spell then that spell will have an impact on you and on anyone that the outcome of the spell has an effect."

She added: "Everything that I make has an unique number and a certificate of authenticity signed by me.  No two can be identical because they are hand sewn, even if they have the same charms and are the same colour they will always be slightly different."

All the poppets are handmade on Angela's smallholding, which is an old castle that is all-but forgotten. Angela said: "People know it is there, but it is just a motte. The place is ancient, the trees are ancient and I am now its guardian."

Angela is also creating a witch's garden so that she can provide dried herbs, fresh herbs and wild flowers and other necessary spell ingredients from a suitably prepared and used space.

I am going to be writing regular features about poppets and dolls, so if you have one you would like featured on A Bad Witch's Blog, please email the photo and details to badwitch1234@gmail.com. I am also the author of the book Pagan Portals - Poppets and Magical Dolls.
