They both depict witches very badly. That witches are evil baby killers. In The Conjuring the witch killed her baby to get more "Power" and before hanging herself she "cursed" anyone who tried to steal her land. In Annabelle, their were two people who were part of a satanic cult, and that is how the demon got into the doll. It really depends on the bias of the writer.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152532055090335650.post-29069025111200533602015-02-02T15:02:47.727+00:002015-02-02T15:02:47.727+00:00I have seen at least a couple of episodes of '...I have seen at least a couple of episodes of 'New Tricks' that seemed rather anti-pagan in general. I can't remember the specific episode titles but one involved a Wiccan coven and the other involved eco-protesters.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152532055090335650.post-9827502764592401742015-02-02T08:42:24.084+00:002015-02-02T08:42:24.084+00:00Very insightful Alan.Very insightful Alan.Badwitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10548605170878666546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152532055090335650.post-28520265062069733552015-02-02T08:35:54.403+00:002015-02-02T08:35:54.403+00:00The whole point revolves around the essential moti...The whole point revolves around the essential motives behind whichever media is presenting witchcraft.
If it's a documentary then it requires research into the modern stance of witchcraft, even comparing it to the historical perception. The documentary can vary depending on the standard of research and how it's presented.
However if it's an entertainment programme, such as a murder mystery, then they don't need to present reality - they will present anything which will connect with the average viewers perception of witchcraft.
A rarity now, tabletop and live action role-playing games were used as plot devices in entertainment shows and there was an outcry in the hobby that the programmes didn't reflect reality. This is because, we were told, the show had to entertain the average perception not change it.
I think this different "motive" behind the media presentations also changes the moral/ethical role of witchcraft too; documentary can inform and present it not as evil, whereas the "entertainment" can use witchcraft to represent the sinister and mysterious element of a story, regardless of truth or accurate portrayal.Alan C-Bnoreply@blogger.com
