Magic: Knot Spells for Wishes, Winds and Bindings

Knot magic is traditional. Historically it had various forms. One is maritime magic, created by coastal cunningfolk to help sailors and fishermen get a good wind. 

Another method s an easy spell you can do any day to help you get what you wish for. It's extremely versatile. You simply tie three knots and say some words while visualising. Here's a description from the book Every Day Magic - A Pagan Book of Days, published by Moon Books.

Knot Magic: Traditionally, Cornish witches would create wind knots for sailors – three knots in a rope. Sailors would later untie the knots to release the wind: one for a fair wind, two for strong wind, three for a gale. But you can use knot magic for anything you want to wish for. Tie three knots in a rope and say: 

Knot 1: My spell begun

Knot 2: My wish come true

Knot 3: So mote it be

A third form is to use knots as a binding spell with a poppet, or magical doll, to stop someone behaving anti-socially. Make an effigy - a poppet - of the person with cloth or wax or clay, then wrap string around it three times and tie three knots. State that you bind them to stop their bad behaviour. If you wish to undo the spell, simply untie the knots and say that you release them.

Pagan Eye: Welcome To Fairy Land @ Wynd's Museum

Here's a photo I took of some of the art by Luciana Nedelea that's currently in exhibition at Viktor Wynd's Museum of Curiosities. The pictures are illustrations for Wynd's new book, Dark Fairy Tales - Stories from Around the World (That Are Definitely Not Suitable for Children). The exhibition is called Welcome To Fairy Land and there are also some other delightful fairy-related objects to look at in the cocktail bar area.

Rounding the Year: When Do You Start Thinking of Yule?

My publisher, Moon Books, just created this lovely Seasons Greetings image. I think it's such fun I couldn't wait to share it, even though it's perhaps a bit early for full-on Yuletide cheer. I don't actually have my tree decorated yet this year. The photo in the middle is one of me with my cat and a copy of my scrying book taken in a Christmas past. I am eating a mince pie as I type this though.

Celebrating a Milestone for Pagan Portals - Scrying

I'm celebrating as my book Pagan Portals - Scrying has reached a big milestone. My publisher, Moon Books, has told me it's sold more than 3,500 copies! A big thanks to everyone who bought it, left reviews, or told me they've enjoyed reading it. The book is about divination in many forms including crystal balls, water, fire, clouds and tea-leaves.

The photo at the top shows copies set out on the table in the reading room at Treadwell's esoteric books in London. It's one of the places I regularly run in-person workshops on scrying, candle magic and other aspects of witchcraft. There are full details on Treadwell's website.
