Pagan Eye: Green Man Cards at Frankenstein Film

These curious cards are among objects on display at Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal, a free exhibition in London offering a glimpse into the background, sets, props, costumes and music of Guillermo del Toro's new gothic movie. I went to have a look at the weekend and was wowed by everything I saw. I'm looking forward to watching the film.

What made me most curious was this set of cards, which I photographed. They're among the props used in the scene in which a blind man shows the creature kindness. I can't recall any cards mentioned in the novel - although it's a long while since I read the book. I'm assuming that in the movie he uses them to teach the creature to read, because they show letters next to related images if you're speaking French. The backs of the cards show the Green Man. I'd think they could also be used as an oracle or fortune telling deck and I'd very much like to have a set if any are produced that are more than a prop.

Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal exhibition runs until 9 November, at the Old Selfridges Hotel behind Selfridges, Oxford Street, London. Tickets are free.

My Pagan Eye posts show photos that I find interesting - seasonal images, pagan sites, events, or just pretty pictures. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself.
