Anerley, in my part of South East London, has a new sign. It's a Green Man! I heard about it on April 1st and initially thought the picture I'd seen shared was a prank. I had to go and see for myself, of course, and can state that it really does exist. I took the photo above yesterday.
Local historian Alan Pottinger said that the Green Man, as well as being a symbol of the cycle of nature, is a suitable sign because "before 1827, Anerley was almost entirely oak woodland.”
There's actually a tiny Green Man on the front of the porch of a local church: St John's in Penge. You can see a picture of it in one of my blog posts on searching for strange architectural creatures.
My Pagan Eye posts show photos that I find interesting - seasonal images, pagan sites, events, or just pretty pictures. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself.
