Pagan Eye: New Moon over Australia

Rupert Hewison, my friend who lives in Australia and who has given me lots of wonderful photos in the past, has now sent me this photo of the new moon in Australia.

Wherever you are in the world you will see the same phase of the moon at the same time - although with a few hours' difference due to time zones. However, in Australia the moon looks the reverse of the way we see it in the UK.

Rupert said: "The photo was taken at Nutwood on 8 Oct 2013 with my pocket digital camera on the auto setting - but on a tripod and a 2 second shutter delay to reduce camera shudder. It was a particularly clear, still and mild spring evening and I spent quite a bit of time sitting on the deck looking at the stars, planets and Milky Way with a pair of binoculars. The night skies here are great as there is virtually no light pollution."

Of course, the seasons are also the reverse of what we have in the UK and while we are watching the nights grow longer as Samhain approaches, my friend in Australia is enjoying the lengthening days and looking forward to Beltaine!

If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not.
