Beltane Pagan Events in London and Southern England


Here are some of the pagan events over the next week, including rituals to celebrate Beltane or May Day. Most of them are in London but I've listed a few big events in other parts of southern England.

Saturday 26 April; Beltane: Lore And Magic. Wednesday 30 April; The Cauldron of Cerridwen (Chertsey) open ritual for Beltane on St Annes Hill in Chertsey. Meet at the Golden Grove Pub, Roxbury Road, St Annes Hill at 8.30pm, to move to the ritual site in convoy. Please bring a torch, and suitable footwear for walking over rough ground. Wednesday 30 April; The Circle of Ankerwycke Open Beltane Ritual. You are invited to join the Circle of Ankerwycke beneath the ancient Ankerwycke Yew for a magical Beltane Celebration not to be missed. Thursday 1 May; Fowlers Troop and the Deptford Jack in the Green will be in Deptford and Greenwich to celebrate May Day. Thursday 1 May; Wheel of the Year Festival - Flowering Meditation - at Chalice Well World Peace Garden, in Glastonbury. The gardens will be open from 5.30am in preparation for May Day celebrations, with free admission between 5.30am and noon. Gather at the Well Head at 12pm for celebration and meditation until 12.30pm, followed by a chance to chat on the lawn. Thursday 1 May; PFL Beltaine Open Ritual facilitated by Christina Harrington and Treadwell's Friends. Venue: Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Holborn London. Time: 7.30pm for 8pm start. Ritual ends around 9pm followed by feasting until 10pm. Entrance: £6/£5 PF members. Please bring seasonal food and drinks to share at feast after ritual. Thursday 1 May - Monday 5 May; Hastings Jack-in-the-Green Festival. Starting with dancing in the dawn on 1 May and with a full festival programme from Thursday 2 May to Bank Holiday Monday, this is a traditional annual event to celebrate May with music, a procession, Morris Dancing, a May Queen and Jack-in-the-Green. Saturday 3 May; Free and Open Gorsedd of Caer Abiri Beltain Celebraton. Druidic ceremony to celebrate Beltaine at Avebury stone circle in Wiltshire. Meet at the Red Lion pub from Noon for ceremony around 1.30pm. The ritual should end at 3pm, then back to the pub. Offerings of bread, mead and song or poetry welcome. Overnight camping is allowed in the overflow car park.

Saturday 3 May; The Cauldron of Cerridwen (Upavon) open ritual at Avebury Stone Circle, Wiltshire, to celebrate Beltane. The event starts at noon, out in the stones opposite the Red Lion Pub, and welcome people of all paths. Come and join us, as we look forward to welcoming old friends and new. Saturday 3 May; Hendon Heathens Moot - free meeting open to all paths on the first Saturday of every month. Venue: The Greyhound, Church End, Hendon, London NW4 4JT. Time: 6pm-9pm at the pub, then over the road to Jammy Dodgers Variety Club for live blues and rock jam, dancing and more pints until 2am.

Saturday 3 May; Forest based ritual to celebrate Beltane with the London Wicca Meetup Group in a forest location in East Meon, Hampshire. Time: 7pm. Small-scale camping event for members of the meetup group. For details, visit: http://www.meetup.com/The-London-Wicca-Meetup-Group

Sunday 4 May; Druidic May Day (Beltane) Celebration on Primrose Hill with the Loose Association of Druids. Gather in the Hawthorne Grove at Primrose Hill, London, NW1 8YH, between 12.30pm and 12.45pm to prepare the site ready for a prompt 1pm start. Nearest tube: Chalk Farm. Bring a small contribution of food and drink to share. All are welcome.
