Question: Croning Ceremonies - When is the Right Time?

Here's a question I was just pondering - when is the right time for a Croning Ceremony?

I've heard several theories as to when it is appropriate for a woman to undergo a Croning Ceremony - when they are starting to go through the menopause, a year or two years after they have gone through the menopause, when they retire from work or reach the age to get an old age pension, when their hair has gone completely white or grey, when they reach the age of 50 or 60 or even 70.

What do you think?

Please leave a comment below and let's get a discussion going.

Maybe Menopause as we go from our fertile years to our crone hood as it were. Seems like the right passage to me. And then we enter into our early crone years and travel along that path. I tend to view it that way. If we went by hair colour I would have been a crone by 30 !!

I think a year after menopause, when the woman has had a chance to adjust to her new change in body, and so can begin the maybe more complicated spiritual adjustment with the next phase in her life.

I'm past the menopause but still feel too young in myself to want to be called a crone. Maybe when I reach 60, but that is quite a few years away still.

I feel it will vary a bit for most of us, hair colour is a bit of a red herring - some people don't go grey at all and some very young! However I think we kinda know when we are at that new stage of our lives. I love the idea of a croning ceremony and would love one when the time comes to mark the transition into a new and exciting phase of life!

The word 'crone' has a bit of an image problem, it conjures up images of an extremely ancient and decrepit woman.

The word needs to be reclaimed with some more positive association before many women would feel comfortable embracing it.

Or maybe a new word could be coined?

Jayne - I think I agree with you that the word has image problems. No one wants to be thought of as decrepit.
