So today Theresa May starts the process that will lead to Britain leaving the EU. I feel sad. I'm old enough to remember us joining Europe and how full of hope the future seemed. Peace and prosperity through greater connection with the countries we are closest with seemed well worth the small price of changing our currency, switching a blue passport for a red one and a little more regulation.
Now we are saying goodbye to all that and the future doesn't seem so bright.
I thought of getting out my crystal ball and scrying at what the years to come might hold in the wake of Brexit, but in the end I decided not to.
I do not believe the future is fixed, even if the options sometimes
appear limited. The future is what we make of it - and the best option
now is to try our hardest to make the future as good as it can be for everyone.
