Magic School: Shamanism and the Initiatory Journey

Tutor Kenneth Rees is running a two-Saturday course called The Fruits of Consciousness: Shamanism and the Initiatory Journey, at a venue in central London.

Here is the information about the course:
An age-old way of changing consciousness, particularly for healing purposes, has been shamanism. Focusing on the initiatory journey made by shamans, with reference to classic commentators such as Carlos Casteneda, Michael Harner and Mircea Eliade, we look at both traditional and revived forms of shamanism from a range of cultures, critically examining its methods, activities, outcomes and the role of its practitioners acting as `technicians of the sacred' and `travellers between the worlds'. A little light experiential work may be undertaken (e.g. meditation, visualisation) alongside the application of relevant anthropological and psychological perspectives to analyse and appraise the value of shamanism for today.
Venue: The Mary Ward Centre, Queen Square, London WC1 (nearest tube stations – Holborn, Russell Square)
Dates: Saturday 17 and 24 March
Time: 10.15am – 5.30pm
