Every Day Magic: Put Food for Birds When it Snows

Today might be the first day of March, but the snow and freezing temperatures of the past few days are not actually that exceptional for this time of year. Late February and early March can often be very cold with treacherous storms.

There is also a full moon tonight. The introduction to the month of March in the book I edited Every Day Magic - A Pagan Book of Days talks about traditional names for this moon and the importance of putting out food for birds and other wildlife at this time of year:
While the Medieval name for the Moon in March is Chaste Moon and the Celtic name is Moon of Winds, another modern Pagan name for it is Death Moon. It serves as a reminder that death is a part of life and that many animals are struggling to find food if the weather is bad. March can be stormy and still cold. This is a good time to put out food for birds and other wildlife to help them survive.

Indeed, I use the time and date website ever such a lot. It is a very useful reference site for pagans.

This is such a lovely post. As well as leaving food out for animals, you can also pin cat or dog hair to a washing line or tree for use in nests, as some birds are starting to build already.

That's a good idea!
