Magic School: Witches' Inn Poppet-Making Workshop

I'm running a practical workshop on poppet-making next Tuesday, 7 May, at the Witches' Inn Gathering.

The Witches' Inn meets at the Hatch Public House, 44 Hatchlands Road, Redhill, RH1 6AT. It starts at 8pm and entry is by donation (£5 suggested). All materials are supplied and you will get to make and take home a magical doll you have created.

In folk magic, poppets are designed in the likeness of individuals for use in spells to help, heal or harm. The word poppet comes from the Middle Ages in England, meaning a small doll or child. More recently the term has been replaced in popular parlance with the inaccurate ‘voodoo doll’.

They were a common feature of folk magic in Britain, Ireland and even on the continent: a few old examples have been found and are kept in museums such as the Pitt-Rivers in Oxford and the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle.

You can find out more details about the Witches' Inn poppet making workshop here: https://www.facebook.com/events/342474399949687/

Erm, well, I was writing about a workshop I was running myself. No on paid me to write a blog post promoting my own workshop, although I sold several copies of my own books on the evening itself.
