Happy Summer Solstice from Crystal Palace Park!
Happy Summer Solstice from Crystal Palace Park!
Here are a few photos I took this morning from the terraces at the top of Crystal Palace Hill.
It was a beautiful morning, as you can see.
I got up before dawn to watch the Solstice sunrise at 4.45am with a small group of people from Penge and Crystal Palace. Although most of us had never met before, we shared coffee, tea, mead and chocolate, wished each other a happy solstice, and felt the spirit of friendship.
Although Crystal Palace might not be a famous sacred site like Stonehenge or the Pyramids of Giza, it is just a short distance from my home and high enough to get great views. And it does have sphinxes too!
I particularly liked the way the golden early morning light silhouetted the treetops and made the dew on the grass appear to glow.

Is the time correct? 8:45am.
Thanks for pointing out my error, it was 4.45am! I have now changed it!
