A: The Persistence of Witchcraft in Victorian England

A: How witchcraft continued to be a presence and evolve in the 19th century.
Q: When will it be published?
A: The date's still to be finalised by the publisher, Routledge.
Q: What event or events are you planning around the launch?
A: This is still to be arranged, but hopefully will include events at both Treadwell's and Atlantis bookshops in London.
Q: Apart from your book, what are you currently working on?
A: Here are some of the events I'm doing:
- A series of talks entitled ’The History and Endurance of Witchcraft’ (in person, livestream, and video catchup).
- An online course about witchcraft - I am taking the session ‘20th century to the modern day.'
- Courses in Hermetic Magic for Treadwell's.
- Talks for various organisations on subjects related to witchcraft and magic, including the Theosophical Society, U3A, Probus, WI.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to mention, including any of your previous books?
A: My previous books are out of print, but I have a chapter in Essays on Women in Western Esotericism: Beyond Seeresses and Sea Priestesses (Madeline Montalban: Magus of the Morning Star), published by Palgrave Macmillan, and A Century of James Frazer's The Golden Bough : Shaking the Tree, Breaking the Bough, (James Frazer and the Press), published by Routledge.More about Dr Julia Phillips
Dr Julia Phillips is Hon Senior Research Associate and lecturer at the University of Bristol. She received her PhD for her research examining how witches and witchcraft were featured in newspapers in Victorian Britain.
