Upcycling Crafts: Paper Flowers from Packing Paper

I made paper flowers from upcycled brown packing paper. It's a crafting idea you could make to give as a Mother's Day present, or for a loved one, or to put on your altar.

A crafting reel I saw on Facebook prompted me to have a go at this. Here's the link, but I adapted the method shown a bit. You need:

  • Brown paper
  • Scissors
  • Paint (optional but especially useful for leaves)
  • A small paint brush
  • Glue (I used quck-drying tacky glue)
  • Thin sticks (I used stripped honeysuckle from my garden, but you could use bought sticks or wire)

Some of my flowers are unpainted, some are pink. If you want colourful flowers then first paint your brown paper and leave it to dry.

Cut a wiggly spiral out of the paper. Loosely roll that around a stick or wire, gluing the bottom of the paper spiral in place as you go. I should warn you that the paper gets soggy with the glue, so you have to be both quick and careful. If you keep the spiral tight you will get bud-like flowers, but if you ease the top of the spiral strips out and pinch the bottom in, you will get fuller blooms.

Leave the flowers to dry then cut out leaf shapes from green-painted paper if you want them. Stick them onto the flowers.
