It's World Book Day, the annual event which champions reading for fun. There's lots going on to encourage reading, and that's fantastic.
But this is also the National Year of Reading 2026, and this Saturday I'm taking part in an event as part of it. The Beckenham Library Book Fayre is the first to be hosted by my local library, at 22 Beckenham Road, BR3 4 PE.
Seventeen authors, all from the area, will be there with copies of their books too. We'll be chatting to anyone who wants to stop by. There will also be talks during the afternoon. Here's the programme:
- 3pm author panel: sharing top tips for writing your first book
- 4pm discussion on publishing and getting your book out there
I'll be on the 3pm panel, talking about how to develop a regular writing practice and a few tips for getting over procrastination and writer's block.
Whatever kind of book you like to read, you're bound to find something to interest you as the Fayre is showcasing over 200 different books in a wide range of genres. It runs from 2pm to 5pm and is completely free. Just turn up.
