Sri: Goddess of the Week

The Bad Witch's Goddess of the Week, picked at random from The Concise Mythological Dictionary is Sri. My dictionary says Sri is one of the names of Lakshmi, Hindu goddess of beauty and good fortune.

However, the mythology website, www.pantheon.org/mythica.html says Sri is: "The Indonesian rice-goddess, equivalent of the Indian goddess Lakshmi. Sri is the goddess of the earth and the mother of the Javanese people."

It goes on to say that she is unique in the Balinese pantheon as being one of the few deities not deriving from Hinduism. Yet despite this confusion over her origins, she is widely worshipped as being a great benefactress.

Beauty and bounty are things everyone respects.
