Pagan Eye: Chalice Well waterfall & stream

This photograph shows a waterfall and part of the stream that flows through Chalice Well gardens, in Glastonbury, which I visited last weekend.

Chalice Well is one of Britain's most ancient wells. It is situated just below Glastonbury Tor and is surrounded by beautiful gardens that are maintained by a trust as a quiet sanctuary for contemplation. The well water is drinkable and high in minerals that make it run the red colour you can see in the picture.

I'll be posting more pictures from Glastonbury over the next week or so - as well as writing more about this beautiful area, which is one of the most sacred sites in England.

My Pagan Eye posts show photos that I find interesting - seasonal images, pagan sites, events, or just pretty pictures. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com. Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself.

What a beautiful photo. Did you feel different after drinking the water?

I felt quite energised immediately after drinking it. Later, I began to suspect the water has ...erm... laxative qualities too :(

umm I don't actually like the chalice well gardens that much---I love Glastonbury, the tor,the legends, the myths even the sacred spring itself but I find the gardens to contrived, to manufactured. for me I would find more meaning if it had been left more natural and rustic. I still remember, even though it was some years ago, while walking in the Scottish highlands finding the beginnings of a spring trickling from a hill side--that was more magical to me to find that tiny spring out in mother nature :)

I agree the Chalice Well gardens are very landscaped and understand why that wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but as gardens go I think they are lovely and feel very much like a sacred space, even if that is a sacred space created as much by man as by nature.

totally agree,it is lovely place--I think the intent of the garden makers and the people who visit make it a peaceful, tranquil garden xx

I was asking about real mystical places and I heard about glastonbury; now looking at it I think I'm on the right way; Could you feel it in there? I was looking for some filming sites in there, is there any? Any places to recommend on the surroundings?
Loved it!

There are lots of lovely places around Glastonbury. I think if you want to film in the Chalice Well Gardens you have to ask permission though.
