Pagan Events Over Spring Equinox and Ostara


Here are some of the events taking place in the week around the Spring Equinox, mainly in London but a few in other parts of southern England.

Saturday 16 March; Exploring Spring Equinox: Symbolism, Folklore, Custom, Magic. One-day workshop including a full ritual at the end of the day with Suzanne Corbie at Treadwells, 33 Store Street, Bloomsbury, London WC1E 7BS. Tickets £45 (£25 deposit, balance due on the day). Saturday 16 March; Roman London walk with John Constable, author of Secret Bankside: Walks Around the Outlaw Borough.This walk explores recent excavations around London Bridge, meet at Borough High St/Tabard Street junction, SE1 1JA between St George the Martyr Church and John Harvard Library at 10.45am for an 11am start. Saturday 16 March; Bwunda - dance led by music from all over the world, in a beautiful space, free from smoke and alcohol. This Bwunda event is usually the 3rd Saturday in month, from 7pm - 10pm. Venue: basement, North London Buddhist Centre, 72 Holloway Road, N7. Price £6/£8/£10.

Sunday 17 March; Druidic Alban Eiler (Spring Equinox) Celebration on Primrose Hill with the Loose Association of Druids. Gather in the Hawthorne Grove at Primrose Hill, London, NW1 8YH, between 12.30pm and 12.45pm to prepare the site ready for a prompt 1pm start. Nearest tube: Chalk Farm. Bring a small contribution of food and drink to share. All are welcome.

Monday 18 March; Cellular Awakening. Tuesday 19 March; Enstatic Dance practice. Weekly class; each session follows a process of physical warmup, themed embodiment practice and a space to explore your own dance through a landscape of music. Wednesday 20 March; Spring Equinox Wheel of the Year Festival at Chalice Well World Peace Garden, in Glastonbury. Gathering at the Well Head at 12pm for celebration and meditation until 12.30pm, then gather around the fire on the lower lawn for quiet conversation. Saturday 23 March; Tamesis Spring Equinox Ritual to celebrate the coming of spring to the land. Meet at The Woodman Pub beside Highgate Underground Station at 11am before walking to Queens Wood, Muswell Hill Road, London N10 for a ritual at noon. Saturday 23 March; Druidic ceremony to celebrate the The Equinox and the balance of light and dark at Avebury stone circle in Wiltshire. Meet at the Red Lion pub from Noon for ceremony around 2pm. The ritual should end at 3.30pm, then back to the pub. Offerings of bread, mead and song or poetry welcome. Overnight camping is allowed in the overflow car park on 23 March.

Saturday 23 March; Vigil to honour The Goose and the outcast dead of Cross Bones Graveyard. Gather from 6.45pm in Redcross Way outside the Memorial Gates, SE1, opposite the Boot and Flogger, just north of the junction with Union Street.
