Pagan Eye: Common Toad - My New Garden Friend

Toads are traditionally friends to witches and this is my new garden ally. I found him under a bucket when I was weeding and I was very pleased to see him because he will help solve my slug and snail problem.

Over the past few years I've been having a ongoing battle with slugs. Not only have they eaten my garden almost bare during wet weather, but I've even found them in my kitchen from time to time. I don't like to use chemical pesticides and although beer traps make a bit of a difference they certainly don't solve the entire problem. Hopefully my toady friend will come to the rescue and get fat eating slugs and snails to his heart's content.

On each Pagan Eye post, I show a photo that I find interesting, with a few words about it - it could be a seasonal image, a pagan site, an event, or just a pretty picture. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself and you must confirm that you are submitting it for A Bad Witch's Blog.

There is some fascinating magical lore about toads.

You might like to look into Toadmanry and Toadmen, which are closely linked to horse whispering.

Toads are also a key feature of some Umbanda rituals and magic in Brazil.

The poor creatures themselves don't often come out of the spells very well though!

Interesting looking website. I was aware of some of the things it mentions, but looks worth reading!
