The Magical Power of Story – The Welsh Mabinogion

Here is a chance to explore Welsh myths and legends and relate them to our own lives. Tutor Kenneth Rees is running a course called The Magical Power of Story – The Welsh Mabinogion in Central London over six Thursday mornings.

These are the details about the course:
We all tell our own stories as we continually make and re-make our lives. Folk tale and myth are both a reflection, and a production of lives and events lived in the past but having a pertinence for our present with even promises for the future.

`Once upon a time' a number of mythological narratives were forged in the Welsh language of the so-called `Dark Ages' via oral tradition. These tales became scripted by medieval monks and eventually translated and ensouled into English as an overall composition in the Victorian age.

Collectively known as the Mabinogion, the Four Branches of this text will be professionally story-told and critically examined pointing out their many layered levels of possible interpretation. The relevance of these myths in giving us insights into contemporary society and for ourselves will be suggested throughout.
