Divination for the Day: Truth and the Shaman's Oracle

The truth can seem hard to find in this age of uncertainty, when our social media feeds are full of deliberate misinformation and even traditional news channels appear to offer highly nuanced angles on current affairs. How can we know what is true, and what is false?

I drew a card from John Matthews' Shaman's Oracle and it was Spirit of Truth. The meaning given in the book that comes with the deck says:
In a primitive world of fundamental instincts and elemental risks, there was little room for subterfuge. To survive was to live by timeless truths of body and spirit. In today's world, truth is one of the benchmarks by which we judge ourselves - and is a necessary ingredient in the evolution of civilized values.
I would say that, in recent times, the human race has slipped in its value of the truth. But each of us, as individuals, can at least try to be honest and truthful in our dealings with others. Meditating on the Spirit of Truth and inviting that spirit to walk with us in our daily lives can help. The Shaman's Oracle book continues:
The Spirit of Truth ennobles us in an aura of integrity. As we walk our chosen path, it helps us to measure our progress accurately, usefully punctures our delusions, and gives us a truer understanding of anyone en route who might offer us false security or seductive rewards.
May the Spirit of Truth help guide us all today.

One of my resolutions this year was to make use of oracle and tarot decks in my collection that aren't ones I frequently consult. I reviewed The Shaman's Oracle back in 2013, but have hardly used it since. It felt right to use it again now, and the card I picked feels most apt. I should add that this is not some ancient divinatory system, but uses images inspired by ancient cave art to try to offer timeless wisdom.

You can view the Shaman's Oracle on Amazon.
