Craft: Knitting, Sewing and Crocheting for Ukraine

Crafters in my area are knitting, crocheting, sewing and painting to raise money for Ukraine. I spotted some of the things they were making when I was looking at my local Facebook page and decided to join in.

Taylor and Abel Haberdashery in Maple Road, Penge, SE20, is helping co-ordinate a group called We Stand With Ukraine Craft Club. Members are making things which are then offered in exchange for donations. This is what the shop's website says:

"Using the power of craft, we are raising money to send to The Red Cross. Crafters in the UK are using this website to send you a Blue and Yellow crocheted or knitted ribbon for you to pop on your lapel in solidarity of the Ukraine. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Minimum Donation is £5 for one ribbon."

It isn't just ribbons either. People are volunteering to make blue and yellow flowers, bags and a huge variety of other items. I've started knitting hearts like the one you can see to the right. These are put on display in the shop and on the website with an easy way of making donations too.

I find crafting is soothing when I'm feeling stressed or anxious, and I'm lucky that this great haberdashery just a few minutes walk from my home. But enough blogging for now - I'm off to do more knitting!
