Authors' 2024 Plans: Angela Paine & Renaissance Herbs

I'm interviewing authors on what titles they have coming out this year and their other plans. Here I talk to medicinal plant specialist Angela Paine about her fascinating look at the uses of herbs in Renaissance Italy:

Q: What book have you got coming out next in 2024?

A: My book due out in 2024 is Healing Plants of Renaissance Florence

Q: What’s it about?

A: It focuses on the Medici family, who promoted herbal medicine, set up a herbal medical faculty in Pisa University and created the first large botanical gardens. They also promoted botanical art and alchemy.

Q: What event or events are you planning around the launch?

A: I will give illustrated talks around the launch and may run week-long medicinal plant courses in Tuscany. (There will be more information later in the year.)

Q: What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working, together with a friend, on a book about edible plants of Crete.

Q: Please tell me more about yourself.

A: My botanist father taught me to recognise the plants that grew in Kent, where I grew up on a farm. I have a PhD in the medicinal plant chemistry of tropical plants used to treat tropical diseases, from London University. I’m the author of The Healing Power of Celtic Plants, Healing Plants of the Celtic Druids, Healing Plants of Greek Myth.

Healing Plants of Renaissance Florence is due to be published in December 2024. You can find Angela Paine's author page at publisher Moon Books: https://www.collectiveinkbooks.com/moon-books/authors/angela-paine
