A Tarot Reading for the World on Friday 13th

For some, Friday 13th is viewed with suspicion, and at the moment I think many of us have that kind of feeling every day. There's a lot of anxiety about things going wrong in the world.

I drew a tarot card as a reading for our times from the Steampunk Tarot - Wisdom from the Gods of the Machine. I picked that deck from my collection because it represents the forces both of looking backwards to an age gone by, but also the power of machines and how they might affect the future. Culturally, politically and technologically, these are current issues.

The card I drew was the Five of Submersibles, which corresponds to the Five of Cups in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. In this picture, which you can see here, a submariner views an underwater accident. Although this is a disaster, there are a couple of survivors. Something dreadful has happened, but there are things to be salvaged. It isn't quite as ruinous as it might first have appeared.

The suit of Submersibles corresponds with cups in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, and this is all about emotion. Avoid blaming yourself for things that have gone wrong, also avoid concentrating too much on the negatives of the situation. Think about what you can salvage from the wreckage.

If you are grieving, then allow yourself time for the healing process of mourning to happen, but also pay attention to the good things that are still there in your life. If you have made mistakes, learn from them, but also look for positive feedback as well as criticism. Avoid focusing too much on failure. Try again and make better strategies in future.
