Tuesday 30 September; The Man Who Invented the British Empire. Talk by Elizabeth Callingham Garton about the effects of John Dee's work in mathematics, astronomy, astrology and navigation on Elizabethan England. Second in The Mortlake Lectures series of four talks. Venue: St Mary the Virgin, Mortlake High Street. Doors open at 7pm, lecture starts at 8pm. Tickets £7 on the door; joint ticket of all four lectures £25.

Wednesday 1 October; Working with the Great Old Ones - are the Old Ones of the Cthulhu mythos evil or have they had a bad press? Saturday 8 November; Witchfest International. One of the most popular gatherings of witches in the world, featuring talks, workshops, a market, live music, food, a bar, a late rock club, dancing and much more organised by The Children of Artemis. 10am to 1am. Cheap advance tickets are available until 30 September at £16 for Children of Artemis members and £20 for non-members. They increase to £20/£24 on 1 November.
