The Great Mother has been worshipped in many different forms since neolithic times, under many different names. She is Mother Earth, she is seen in the mountains and she is the mistress of the animals. One name for her is Cybele, the Phrygian "Mountain Mother". Others identify her with Greek Gaia, "The Earth".
She is generally seen as a fertility deity and it is appropriate to honour her in the spring when animals everywhere are generally going about their ancient rituals of courting, shagging and breeding.
The picture shows a chocolate Mother Goddess made with a Mother Goddess Chocolate Mould. This is sold by the online store Pagan Magic and costs £7.99. Makes the Mother Goddess look good enough to eat!
