What I got for Yule

I really hope that everyone who reads my blog had a fantastic Yule and got lots of lovely pressies - I certainly did!

My wonderful partner gave me - as well as a big box of chocolates and a bottle of whiskey - the gift I had really been hoping for - a Kindle. As I'm sure everyone knows, a Kindle is an e-reader; a wireless reading device that stores books in electronic format so you can carry your whole library around with you and browse whenever and wherever you want.

I'd already downloaded the Kindle app for my laptop and found that very useful, but the Kindle itself is so much lighter and easier to carry around than even the smallest laptop. Before I got one, the one thing I was worried about was how easy it was to transfer pdf files from a laptop to a Kindle. I found that it is actually very simple to do by connecting the cable that comes with the device to the laptop and copying and pasting the files.

I know I'm going to find my Kindle very useful indeed, particularly for reviewing books that are sent to me in pdf format.

Mind you, I know I haven't given up on printed books entirely, as I got several of them for Yule too. I'm very much looking forward to reading Birds: Divine Messengers,by Andrea Wansbury, which I was given by a friend who knows just the kind of thing I like to read.

I also got a copy of Ronald Hutton's The Triumph of the Moon: A History of Modern Pagan Witchcraft. This one of those books that I know every witch should have read, but - up to now - I haven't got around to doing so. I think I will make reading it one of my New Year resolutions.

Another delightful present I was given was a DVD of Kiki's Delivery Service, which is a lovely animated film about young witch who sets out in the world to make a name for herself. It is by Studio Ghibli, which also made the award-winning cartoon Spirited Away.

I love all the Studio Ghibli movies and I'm really going to enjoy rewatching Kiki's Delivery Service - while eating my big box of chocolates and drinking a glass of the whiskey I was given.

A big thank you to my partner and friends for all my lovely pressies!

As a (fairly) long-time reader, and after typing many comments and never hitting the send button - I just thought I had to respond to this. As a fellow Kindle owner I can't wait to see which books you recommend (so I can download them, as there's an embargo on actual books in my house as we have too many!) And thanks for the informative and entertaining blog :-)

Oh wow, definite nostalgia with Kiki's Delivery Service. I remember watching it years ago and loving it. Enjoy!
