Valentine's Day is only just around the corner, so I thought I'd write about the Witch's Brew: Love Spells Deck,
I bought a copy of this in the sales a little while ago and immediately took it around to a witchy friend's house to show her. My witchy friend happened to be looking for a new boyfriend at the time, and asked to borrow it. Despite me asking for it back a few times, it has only just been returned. I think my friend must have found it useful.
The deck consists of 36 cards, each printed with a spell, potion or charm related to love. As well as spells to attract a new lover there are enchantments to keep your existing lover keen and magic to help you get over a broken heart.
You can use the deck as a divination set, by shuffling the cards and picking one at random to suggest a suitable action to take, or you can look through them to choose whatever spell takes your fancy.
Publisher Chronicle Books says on its website: "In this deck of easy-to-execute incantations, charms, and potions, novice spell-casters and veteran witches alike will find the potential to create and enhance all the amour in their lives. Enchant, allure, or simply express sweet sentiments with help from Witch Bree."
The boxed set includes an instruction leaflet with an easy introduction to spell-casting, a guide to creating a love altar and some advice about working with the phases of the moon for the best results.
I thought it was rather a sweet little deck with some interesting spells suitable for a complete novice or a practising witch. And at the time of writing this, I see you can still pick up copies at sale prices - even better.
