Pagan Eye: A Haunted Bookshop in Lewes

I bet you aren't surprised to learn that a bookshop this old and spooky looking is supposedly haunted. It is one of the places I visited when I was in Sussex a week ago doing a series of ghost walks. The bookshop is in Western Road, on the corner of Keere Street.

The figure of an old man is sometimes seen pottering around inside just as he did when the building was his home, according to the book GhostHunter Walks in Sussex. Apparently customers have mistaken him for a member of staff and asked him questions, only for him to disappear before their eyes.

Sadly photography is not allowed inside the bookshop itself, which is just as rambling and full of character as the outside.

My Pagan Eye posts show photos that I find interesting - seasonal images, pagan sites, events, or just pretty pictures. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not.
