Public Domain Pictures from Historic Grimoires

A friend sent me links to these wonderful pictures from historic books of magic via The Public Domain Review, a project of the Open Knowledge Foundation.

If you want to see more of the pictures and read about them, one of the posts is on The Key of Hell: an 18th-Century Manual on Black Magic. Here is the link: http://publicdomainreview.org/collections/the-key-of-hell-an-18th-century-manual-on-black-magic/

The second is about a Compendium of Demonology and Magic (ca. 1775). Here is the link for that: http://publicdomainreview.org/collections/compendium-of-demonology-and-magic-ca-1775/

I wasn't aware of The Public Domain Review before now, but I'm going to spend more time reading it as I can see it has lots of material about historic witchcraft, magic and the occult.

If you are interested in reading more about the history of this subject, the book I would recommend is Grimoires - A History of Magic Books by Owen Davies.
