I was really lucky to be invited to an afternoon's free tour of M.K. Čiurlionis: Between Worlds at Dulwich Picture Gallery. As well as tickets to see the exhibition of art by Lithuania’s best loved artist, the afternoon included storytelling by Debbie Guneratne and some tea and cakes. In the photo you can see Debbie talking about her favourite painting in the exhibition: The Princess Who Grants Wishes.
M.K. Čiurlionis is a visionary artist and his pictures are inspired by the forests, water and mountains of his country as well as Lithuanian mythology and his own dreams and imaginings. Lithuania was one of the last European countries to remain pagan from ancient times, and a sense of ancient gods and goddesses still inhabiting the world permeates Čiurlionis' work.
I strongly recommend visiting M.K. Čiurlionis: Between Worlds before it closes on March 12. Dulwich Picture Gallery is at Gallery Road, London SE21 7AD and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm. I'd also like to mention Invisible Palaces, a group which organises activities relating to heritage and culture in the Crystal Palace area. It was through the group that I got my ticket to this wonderful event.
On each Pagan Eye post, I show a photo that I find interesting, with a few words about it. It could be a seasonal image, a pagan site, an event, or just a pretty picture. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com. Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself and you must confirm that you are submitting it for A Bad Witch's Blog.
