Pagan Eye: Handcrafted Wands by Men in Sheds

These funky wands are all individually handmade by a cunning crafter in Men in Sheds. They're intended for kids playing at being wizards rather than for real magical use, but they're a lot nicer than mass-produced plastic tat.

The "shed" is part of a crafting group run by Age UK and is full of brilliantly inventive things from toys to art to furniture, much of it upcycled from scrap wood and metal. The photo also shows part of the very well equipped wood workshop. You don't have to be a man to join, and there is also a Women in Sheds group.

I visited Men in Sheds as part of the SE20 Art Trail at the weekend. The Art Trail includes various galleries, cafes, shops, pubs and and studios. There's a huge range of different types of art to see - including a wonderful exhibition about memories of the old Crystal Palace and images of its ruins at Tension Fine Art

The Art Trail continues next weekend, although apparently Men in Sheds won't be open then. However, you can normally visit the men's and women's groups during the week. The Facebook page says it's open on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The shed is at Kingsdale Road, Penge, SE20 7PR.

On each Pagan Eye post, I show a photo I find interesting, with a few words about it. I'm not quite sure what I'll be including - it could be a seasonal image, a pagan site, an event, or just a pretty picture. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself and you must confirm that you are submitting it for A Bad Witch's Blog.
