Art: Kelly Sweeney's Magical & Mystical Craft

Artist Kelly Sweeney kindly let me share photos of some of her stunning paintings. She also explained something of her thoughts and inspirattion behind them:

"My practice spawns a cosmology of supernatural entities, that manifest through painting, sculpture, drawing and film, with a dabble in live performance. 

"Recent concerns have included giving physicality to the energetically encountered inhabitants of place, combining the evidenced with the perceived. Taking the female personification of wilderness as departure point, I have begun to explore sites with a psychogeographical approach engaging both the material and non-physical.

"Interested in traditions and customs, I remain drawn to belief systems that cultivate relationships with the natural environment through magical and mystical craft. Recent research (supported by Jerwood Arts) considers the geographical, ecological and folkloric lineage of place as conscious feminine agency.

"This body of six paintings developed from experiential research on Hampstead Heath in London. These entities represent aspects of the divine feminine as fluid construct that resides in us all."

The pictures here are called Pollination, Venus, Wildling, Midsummer, Magician and Equinox. I hope to see more of Kelly's work in the future.
