The Bad Witch's Resolutions

At the end of last year I wrote about my resolutions for 2008. On the principle that with a lot of goals you have a good chance of achieving at least half of them by the end of the year, it was a long list.
  1. Continue to write my blog regularly
  2. Read at least one book relating to paganism, magic or folklore each month
  3. Learn a new skill that would be useful for a witch
  4. Following on from my earth meditation, write meditations for the elements of air, fire and water
  5. Grow some vegetables in my garden
  6. Do six country walks over the four seasons
  7. Visit somewhere with a reputation for being haunted
  8. Make sure my computer power supply is unplugged every night
  9. Give away four things each month on Freecycle
  10. Do a fire walk
Looking at that list now, at the end of the year, I realise I have achieved about half of them, although not perhaps quite in the way I intended.

I've certainly continued to write my blog regularly and I have read at least one book each month on paganism, folklore or magic. I learnt to use Powerpoint in order to give a talk about my blog at Secret Chiefs back in the spring. I suppose that is a skill useful for a witch, although when I wrote my list I was meaning something more like tea leaf reading.

I wrote guided meditations on all the elements, and posted them to A Bad Witch's Blog, but I didn't plant any vegetables in my garden.

I did several country walks, my favourite being around Alfriston. I visited Bunhill Cemetery, which is haunted, although that is a place I often go to sit anyway, so I'm not sure if that counts. Next year I will make an effort to specifically visit a haunted location to look for ghosts.

I did unplug my computer every night and although I have given away a few things on Freecycle - including an old computer modem, a pink lava lamp, a pair of wellies after I bought prettier ones and a very basic digital camera after I upgraded - I don't think I managed four things a month.

As to the fire walk, I was simply too much of a wimp. Maybe next year.

And talking of next year's list, here are 10 things I want to do in 2009:
  1. Improve my blog by adding extra features or pages
  2. Interview at least one well known pagan figure for A Bad Witch's Blog
  3. Learn tea leaf reading
  4. Visit six places in London that are associated with paganism, witchcraft or the occult and write about them
  5. Visit somewhere rumoured to be haunted and write about it
  6. Continue to read at least one book relating to paganism, magic or folklore each month
  7. Go through my bookshelves and get rid of at least a dozen books (even if I then replace them with others)
  8. Feng Shui my home
  9. Learn how to make something that could go on an altar
  10. Do a fire walk

Dear Bad Witch
I've been following your blog every now and then since I discovered it looking for reviews of my talk at Witchfest. Its lovely, informative and fun. I'd like to wave a magic wand and make one of your resolutions come true. You are cordially invited to a fire walk with us some time around mid-summer 2009 summer.
Happy New Year.

Melissa.

Merry Meet!
Just wanted to say hello! I have only just discovered your blog but love to hear what you have to say! I am an English witch too (Buckinghamshire) and also a member of C.O.A. Loved the pics of the fox and cat food fight! My moggie looks similar to your visiting cat. I also used to feed the foxes on the lawn at my parents house. Anyway, wishing you all the best for 2009 and hope you achieve your resolutions (braver than I to firewalk!) lol
Blessed be! )O(

I, too, am trying to purge my bookshelves. Otherwise, I'm actually resolving to be a little more hedonistic...

The firewalk sounds exciting!

Hedonism sounds like a great plan for 2009!
