The eye of winter...

Sometimes I think the trees are even more fascinating in winter than they are in summer. They might be bare and leafless, but their gnarled trunks have such amazing shapes, which can be obscured by the mass of foliage in summer.

The folds in the bark of this tree look to me like the eye of a wise old being, perhaps slightly frowning.

The tree itself overlooks the path in my local park - so perhaps it has reason to frown at the strange things it sees us humans get up to. If only the tree could talk as well as look, what stories it might tell...
