On this day, in 1951, Dorothy Clutterbuck - who Gerald Gardner claimed had introduced him to a coven of traditional witches - died. The picture above shows the house in which Gerald Gardner, the father of modern Wicca, was probably initiated. The property was owned by Dorothy Clutterbuck at the time.I took the picture after hearing about it in a lecture given by historian Philip Heselton at the Charge of the Goddess Conference. Philip's book, Witchfather - A Life of Gerald Gardner, has just been launched and provides a lot more information about Gerald and "Old Dorothy".

how strange, i was just looking at this house on rightmove.co.uk. (i love to wind myself up looking at houses ill never be able to afford.. odd hobby!) Had no idea it was Dorothys! It does have a vibe to it!
Thanks for pointing that out! I've now had a look on rightmove.co.uk too and I think you are right. Wish I had the money to buy it!
