Pagan Eye: Spring of Dionysus at Dion in Greece

Doesn't this sacred spring look wonderful?

This photo shows the spring of Dionysus at the Archaeological Park of Dion, an important archaeological site at Mount Olympus in Greece. Dionysus is a god of wine and ecstasy. The picture was sent in by someone who reads this blog and who also sent me the photo of a Medusa mosaic I posted on the blog last week.

Dion contains the archeological remains of sanctuaries from the Hellenistic and Roman periods and the park shows the importance of ancient Dion. The reader who was there said about the spring: "It was freezing- bubbling up from the ground, filtered through the rocks of Olympus. I collected a bottle of water from here over two months ago and it is still sparkly clear!" I wish I could visit some time soon.

I'll be sharing a few more pictures from Dion over the next weeks. My Pagan Eye posts show photos that I find interesting - seasonal images, pagan sites, events, or just pretty pictures. If you want to send me a photo for a Pagan Eye post, please email it to badwitch1234@gmail.com Let me know what the photo shows and whether you want your name mentioned or not. For copyright reasons, the photo must be one you have taken yourself.

The photo is copyright the photographer and used here with permission
