Global Recycling Day: Let's Talk About Witchy Recycling

Today is Global Recycling Day, encouraging everyone to think more about what we throw away, and try to see opportunities rather than waste. Most pagans are already very aware of environmental concerns and are probably among the top recyclers, but it's always good to think about what more we can do.

I'm not going to get preachy. I know there's no need as all of us know how to check updates in what's taken for recycling in our area. I'm sure we all also freecycle or donate stuff rather than chuck it out, and find ways of mending things rather than replacing them if possible.

What I thought I'd do instead is share a few witchy ideas for recycling that I've blogged about in the past. Here are links to some of the upcycled craft projects my fellow witch Jane Mortimer and I have attempted:

Another thing I've done is re-use packing material that consists of large air-filled plastic pockets. I've separated each pocket, cut the top, and used the sections as small plastic bags. They are a perfect size to put small things like candles in. When I run candle magic workshops, everyone attending has two or three candles to take home. These upcycled bags mean the plastic packing is no longer single-use. You can see a picture of the type of packing material at the top of this post, and an example of one pocket used as a bag in the photo to the right.

As it says on the Global Recycling Day website: "There is no doubt recycling is on the front line in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity."

So, please share your own examples of witchy recycling and help inspire others even more!
