Supernatural Games: Horrified - Fighting Movie Monsters

At the weekend I played a board game called Horrified. It's about defending a town and the inhabitants from classic Universal movie monsters Dracula, Frankenstein and the Bride, the Wolfman, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. The game is really fun, easy to learn and takes about an hour to play. In fact I enjoyed it so much that my hubby and I played it three times in succession, with different pairs of monsters to defeat each time.

One of the things I particularly like about it is that it's a cooperative board game, so you work together with your fellow heroes rather than trying to win against them. The basic idea is that the heroes travel around the town to spooky locations including the laboratory, the graveyard, the mansion and the abbey. They collect items that will be useful, such as the burning torch or the stake, and find people including Renfield and Lucy to escort to safety. In between the players' turns, the monsters move and act according to cards turned over. A terror track goes up if they successfully attack, and you lose if it goes up too far. Each monster is defeated in different ways, which gives the game variety.

I do realise this post isn't particularly witchy, but I do know many of my fellow witches enjoy games with spooky or supernatural themes. This is one I thoroughly recommend. I bought my copy in a branch of Waterstones, using my discount card. You can also view Horrified at Amazon.

I've reviewed other witchy and spooky games and here are some of the links:
