A Poem for Yule: There is no Peace on Earth...

This is a poem for Yule, the Winter Solstice, Christmas or whatever you celebrate in late December. One of my resolutions this year was to write poetry for each of the eight Wheel of the Year festivals, but I was really struggling to write my Yule poem as the world seems so harsh at the moment. Eventually, I wrote this:

There is no Peace on Earth

There is no peace on Earth
and no goodwill to all.
We could be kind, but rather
hark to hatred's call

Is this what we desire?
What we wish for
this year's Yule?

Or could we,
for just one day?
Stop.
Then be less cruel.
